Teachers College, Columbia University's Staff Recognition Ceremony 2022 by Christian Hernandez

I was asked to return to TC to photograph a ceremony in June that was halted by COVID-19 for two years - their Staff Recognition Ceremony. It was a 2-day celebration of faculty and staff who have been at the college for anywhere from 10 to 55+ years. I photographed this event on my own and was glad to be called in for this project. I had a great time covering the event. Here is some of what I captured.

A few months ago, I photographed Neemo and Trent on their Prom day for some Portraits. Apart from the traditional prom poses, I treated the shoot like a couple’s photoshoot and captured them being a couple. Their theme was Black & Gold and both were dressed to impress.

My Year in Photography - 2018 by Christian Hernandez

I never set goals. Believe me - at the beginning of the year, nor at any other point in the year do I set goals. But since I now had time to think about what I wanted the rest of my year to look like, I set some goals for my business back in May. Since then, I’m surprised at how many of those I’ve been fortunate to have achieved. By God’s grace and provision, and with the support of my family and friends, I have thankfully been able to check several of those off my list. Here are 4 that I’m really proud of.

Family Portraits - The Carmany's by Christian Hernandez

In addition to weddings, one other type of photography I’ve been doing more of lately is family photography. The Carmany’s reached out to me for a family portrait session at their home for this year’s Christmas cards. All included, we had 6 kids ranging in ages from small children to adults, and we took photos both indoors and outdoors. The day was a bit overcast and it actually rained at one point, but thankfully we were able to capture some genuine moments that made for great photos.

Photographing a Traditional Bosnian Wedding by Christian Hernandez

On this day, I had the opportunity to second-shoot a traditional Bosnian wedding. Although it had familiar elements I’d seen before of a wedding ceremony, there were several traditions I had never seen before. One of which was their tradition to give servers (their own family members) large amounts of money for coffee.

Making Pottery at Porch Pottery by Christian Hernandez

I had been wanting to take a pottery class for a while, so before I moved back to Florida, I purchased a Groupon for a 2-hour pottery class that included making pottery on a wheel. The Groupon was for 4 people, so it was perfect for my family and I. The only time I had done anything with pottery was in 5th grade and I don't remember a lot of it, so I thought why not try it out for fun?

3 Things I've Learned in 5 Years as a Photographer by Christian Hernandez

I started taking my photography seriously in 2013 after moving to New York City. There, I did a lot of portrait and event work at the graduate school I attended, and also roamed NYC photographing the city on my own. That's the time when I began learning the ins and outs of my camera and how to photograph. Between then and now, I've learned a lot.
