Family Portraits - The Carmany's / by Christian Hernandez

In addition to weddings, one other type of photography I’ve been doing more of lately is family photography. The Carmany’s reached out to me for a family portrait session at their home for this year’s Christmas cards. All included, we had 6 kids ranging in ages from small children to adults, and we took photos both indoors and outdoors. The day was a bit overcast and it actually rained at one point, but thankfully we were able to capture some genuine moments that made for great photos.

Finding good locations is one of the several roles the photographer assumes. As the expert, I have the best knowledge to know what will yield the best images. One of the things that made this shoot memorable for me as the photographer was finding a space on the property that was indoors, but also allowed amazing natural light to come in when we opened up the space. One benefit to taking the photos like this was that the family remained indoors and under the cover of the house, while I stood on the outside and took the photos of the family inside the house. This was especially helpful on the day of this shoot because the wind was a bit strong and threatening the girls’ hair.

Here is some of what we captured.
