In October, I went to Hawaii to photograph my first destination wedding. Jackie (the bride) reached out to me in April to see if I’d be available to photograph her wedding in Hawaii. I emphatically said YES!
Jackie and I worked together for several years for the same office in graduate school, and I attribute a lot of my entry into photography to the work that office asked me to do. I had met Phillip about a year or two prior, and was excited they chose me to document their big day.
We were able to scout the location during a rehearsal they had the day before, and the venue was fantastic. It was open-air, which let in lots of natural light, and the weather held up great.
About 100 friends and family members were in attendance and the wedding party was only made up of one best man and one maid of honor - which made things really simple for us. The easy and laid-back island spirit we hear about when we think about Hawaii was present, and I’m really pleased with the images we were able to capture.
With each shoot, and with more practice, I get better and my confidence grows in handling stressful shoots. I continue to look forward to shooting more weddings.
