California Family Trip / by Christian Hernandez

In May 2021, the Hernandez family took a trip out west to California. As a family, we had never been West of Chicago, Illinois and that was around 20 years ago. As a family, we were excited to see nature and God’s creation on this trip. Our plans included experiencing Yosemite, Sequoia, and Kings Canyon National Parks. I purchased a drone, a GoPro camera, and other gear in anticipation of this trip. Needless to say, I was excited to bring out my photo gear and dust it off. This post captures some highlights of our 7-day trip.

This is what we captured.

SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK

On the first day of our trip, we headed to Sequoia National Park. We came to see nature and boy did we. The trees, the rocks, the earth, the sky - all of it was better than we imagined. In the shots below, we drive for 2 hours from our hotel near Fresno, California to Sequoia and stopped at various points to take some photos, hike, and experience the outdoors. Speaking for myself - coming from the crammed spaces of New York City, the open space of California’s outdoors was much needed and a breath of fresh air.

The following day, we experienced more of Sequoia, including Tunnel Log and Moro Rock Trail. I had been to California once before, so I had to introduce my family to the delicious food at In-N-Out Burger. At the end of the day, I insisted that we drive 2 hours each way to the nearest one for dinner.

The following day, we spent a little more time seeing a different area of Sequoia National Park and Kings Canyon National Park.

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK

The following day, we journeyed to Yosemite National Park.

On the following day, we spent some more time in Yosemite National Park. I didn’t take a lot of photos on this day, but we got to experience a water painting class as well as some other parts of Yosemite. The day ended with a view of both El Capitan and Half Dome.

These were the photos from our trip. We enjoyed our time and vacation greatly and were thankful to have been able to experience all that we did together.
